Two friends and I (Qualified teachers) are interested in setting up a Saturday school in the Urmston area of South Manchester.

At the moment, we are trying to gather information on the thoughts of parents and guardians as to their interest in participating their 7-11 year olds to our school.

We are hoping to offer Maths, English and the Sciences, delivered in a semi-structured way, making the product of great benefit to the child and parent.

We are looking at a Saturday morning (approximately 3 hours 0900-1200), we would provide snacks and breaks during the session to maximize your child's enjoyment.

We are aiming to charge between £20 and £30 in total for the 3 hour session.

We would be very grateful if you could post any thoughts you would have with regards this potential product. Is this something you would be interested in ?, is the day and time appropriate ?, is the price attractive ?.

Not a hope in hell would I send my child to extra school on a Saturday. That's what actual school is for. At 7 Saturday is for relaxing and doing stuff that's not English, maths and science.

Wouldn't be something I would want to sign up for. We are outside on a Saturday, doing sport.

What level is it aimed at? Above average aiming for selective or struggling and in need of support? I think you'd need to be very very clear at pitching it correctly.

This would make a difference to feedback.

Saturday childcare for that age group (or younger) would be useful but I wouldn't want my kids to have to do extra schoolwork.

Unless you prepare for test or offer tuition for problems children have in school I doubt you find parents willing to pay for "normal lessons".

We have the chance to send DD to a Saturday school who teaches her second language. We decided against it as 5 days of school is already enough. We currently look into a tutor but for a specific problem, not to add to the already existing workload.

I know of several language schools or science clubs who are quite popular in our area but that is maybe 1 hour after school/Saturday, not a full morning.

I don't understand why. Is it exam prep for 11+ or tutoring for struggling kids or what? In both those scenarios I would much rather pay for a 1-2-1 tutor for 1 hour a week rather than miserfy every saturday morning for 3 hours with mixed age/ability group lessons.

I agree. I think most people would rather pay for private tutor to focus on specific challenge...unless it is a sat language school.

Saturdays are for dance, drama , music & sport not maths English & science.

The children at our school attend on a Saturday, it is by far and away one of the most unpopular aspects.

I would offer an hour/2 after school and install yourself at a few schools.

Children are hard at work all week, Saturdays are for fun !!

I totally don't get why parents or kids would go for this. Is it basically going to be tutoring for 11+?
