Urgent help on job application form- references

Hi all. Just applying for a new teaching job, and I know that it's a school that 'traditionally' asks for references at the interview stage. Thing is, I haven't told my current school I'm leaving yet.

I am allowed to say that I don't want them to contact my references at this stage, but I have to give a reason. Any good ideas for a reason that's better than 'I haven't told them I'm leaving yet'?

Thanks!

That's the only reason that will work, it's honest and they will understand!

You could do that, but wouldn't your current HT be used to giving references/time off for interviews anyway? It's usual in schools.

I thought in education it was normal to tell your current employer you are applying as the new employers generally take up references before interview and definitely before offer.
