Rates of pay for transcription work

I've been doing some transcription work for the past year or so, and charge £1.10 per audio minute for focus groups, and £1.00 pam for one-to-one interviews. I deal directly with the people/companies concerned.

I've just been offered some work by an established transcriptionist, and she's offering £36 for an hour file (I assume this is one-to-one interview), so 60p per audio minute. Is this around the standard pay when getting work via a third party (ie, though an agency, effectively)?

I was a bit shocked!

Hi, I've been working for a transcription company for about three months now, and I'm looking for some extra work. How do I contact you? I'm new to mumsnet! :)

@Wordbee - Hello! I'm also looking for freelance transcription work due to the end of my current contract (I'm experienced...transcription has been part of my work for 10 years or so... interviews, focus groups etc).

Would love to hear more

Hi I've worked for children and families care group and Cumbria partnership foundation trust for 17 years. I'm an experienced audio transcriptionist and doing some work from home and getting 40p per audio minute think I've been taken advantage of and an thinking of telling them I want more or would look elsewhere am I being unreasonable? Smile

Hi Wordbee,

Just came across this thread and I’m not sure if you are still looking for typists but I have just been offered work with Document Direct but would be interested to see if you are still looking?

Many thanks!
Emily

Hi I'm a freelance transcriber and have a lot of work coming up which I could use some help with from another freelancer. Let me know if any of you have some availability in October. Some of my work is financial services/pharmaceutical so any medical experience would be a bonus.

Hi!

I'm hoping people are still watching this thread as I am currently looking for experienced transcribers. I have been running my transcription service for the last 8 years and it's growing! Our work is varied and can be easy to complete medical reports or more in depth work such as interviews with one or many participants. The work is paid in accordance with the difficulty and time it would take to complete but still on a per audio minute rate. Rates go from £0.50-£0.75 per audio minute. As a lot of our work is interesting it also makes the time pass quicker when completing!
We also get in occasional copy typing, which is paid at £10 per hour.
Get in touch with me at [email protected] for further info and to apply.
I ask for applicants to be UK-based, have previous experience of transcription work and have transcription equipment.
For those with no formal transcription experience but previous secretarial experience interested in getting into transcription work, I've written a 27-page e-book, packed with information on how to break into the industry. Based on my hard work and toil so it's full of all the shortcuts that people need. If interested in finding out more about this email me [email protected]
Hope this is useful to someone out there - I really need an extra pair of hands, or several!

Just something to add, I've been receiving some great applications from people with fantastic background skills in secretarial and typing work, but not in formal 'transcription' work, so to speak. Which is fine, as there are a lot of companies who will hire and train you up. For me, however, I am only a small business and don't have the time to train anyone up unfortunately, hence why I wrote the e-book mentioned in my previous post. If anyone is interested, you can find both it and another one on time-saving tips while transcribing here: outsource-typing.com/product-category/e-books/

Hi @OutsourceTyping, I know this thread is a couple of years old now but just wondered if you were still looking for transcribers? I have been transcribing for over 3 years now and although it's not well paid I really enjoy it. It's also great to have the flexibility to work from home. Please message me if you are recruiting. Thanks. Caroline
