Prorated holiday allowance

Hello I wonder if any kind person could help me work out what my holiday entitlement would be when I go back to work following mat leave?!

I'm rubbish at working these things out, at the moment I work 40 hours per week and get 25 days plus bank holidays, but I'm going back to 30 hours per week...

if you will be going back doing 3/4 of the hours that you were doing then I imagine you would get 3/4 of the holiday days so around 19 days .

Yes, it would be 3/4 x 25 days plus 3/4 of bank holidays.

The bank holiday is usually prorated added on to leave and then if you take a bank holiday off you have to use annual leave.
If you are only going onto 30 hours at the end of mat leave, your accumulated leave whilst you've been off will be from your 40 hours.

It may be easier to convert your full time days etc into hours and then 3/4 of that.

Depends if you are working shorter days than before or fewer days of the same length...

To work it out more accurately, you'll need to let's us know how many hours is a standard working day and how many hours a day you'll be working on your return. Assuming 40/5 = 8 hrs per day. 25 days leave * 8 hours = 200hrs leave per year. It follows that a 30 hr a week leave entitlement pro rata would be 200/40x30 = 150hrs leave. So then divide 150 hrs by how many hrs you work a day to see how many days you'll get. Most employers pro rata bank holidays for part time workers as well but there are different ways of dong this so you'd need to check with the HR department.

My hours were, 8.30 - 5 so 8 hours a day, I will now be doing 8.30 - 5, two days a week and 8.30 - 4, two days a week and one day off ...

As you have days of different lengths you will need to work in hours for your annual leave. If you take a week off = 30hrs, a Monday or Tuesday = 8hrs leave, and 7hrs for a Wednesday or Thursday. Obs you don't have to take any leave for a Friday. Remember 150/30 = 5, so you are still get 5 weeks leave the same as a full time person (200/40 = 5). As I said you'll need to speak to your HR dept about BHs as the can be dealt with differently by different employers. Mine give me a pro rata amount of hours whether the BH is a working day or not which is entered into my flexi sheet.
