Any academics retrained?

Before DC I was an academic in English lit, I've been a SAHM for nearly 6 years, youngest starts school in September but I have no family support so Uni lecturing will be impossible. Has anyone been in a similar situation and retrained to do something more flexible?

Can't you get a childminder to cover the hours you need? What sort of hours would you work as a lecturer?

Single mum, lecturer here. Know lots of others. I've no family here at all and manage! Flexible, works much better than many other jobs around parenthood!

I retrained as I was working 7 days a week in academia, sometimes until late at night. There was no way it was compatible with family life for me. The only issue of course is that you have to start at the bottom again and it takes longer to work your way up if you're part time. I work 4 days a week now, sometimes more if I have project deadlines.
