Please help me decide which way to go...possible reality check needed

ok my confidence of late has been quite bad and I manage to talk myself out of every interview I have been offered in the past 10 months or so. I recently applied for a hospital admin post, pretty much next door to where I work. I currently work part time and am relatively well paid, but the people I work with are not supportive in anyway and I effectively feel that I am being de-skilled, hence the lack of confidence. The post I have applied for is f/t but having spoken to the contact point for the right person a slight reduction in working hrs may be possible, however new admin staff are not allowed to park on site and so must use public transport which would mean the need for before & after school care for my dd who I currently take & pick up, add to this the fact that my OH works nights. Am I mad to consider this ...?

Are you mad to consider going for the interview? No. You would be mad not to go for the interview, to find out more about the role, for the practice, etc.

Would you be mad to take the job if it's offered? Well, that may depend a bit. How does your dd feel about before/after school care? My ds was adamantly opposed to it until about Year 4, when I no longer needed it anywhere near as much. Then he realised his best friend was in the before school club and that made all the difference (he still wouldn't want to go to the after school club). How old is your dd?

How much time do you see your OH now? If you take on extra hours, what are the pluses that might offset it, could he drop a shift, for example?

Take it one step at a time. It does sound like there may be some disadvantages to the new job that mean it isn't the right one for you, but the interview will tell you more.

Thank you for your reply tribpot, my dd is 10 and not overly keen on before/after school club, but would put up with before school club, although there is a waiting list for places. This job would be a slight drop in salary and is a rolling fixed term as research/charity funded.

How late would you be home? She'll be at secondary soon so you'll be having to leave her at home alone anyway after school.

Well I had my interview and found out today I have got the job and they are happy for my to work p/t but can only go to 30 hrs per week, so just got to sort the logistics of transport and how to work the hrs across the week. I guess I could either spread the hrs over 5 days or work 2 long days and 3 short, so that I could still retain the majority of the school run duties, depending of course on any preferences they may have, the generic working day is 9-5.
