do i have to go in in my own time

I am due back in work in 10 day. Had a phone call yesterday saying I needed to have an interview to return to work before I am due back. Is this me being petty cos my time is now precious and I don't want to do this in my time. Why can't I have a meeting on my first morning back to 'bring me up to speed'

I think I would be peeved, give them a ring and ask them if they could do it on your first day back.

Yeah I think if they had given me more notice I would not be opposed to the idea. just wasn't sure if i was being unreasonable

Hi

You do not have to but it might be a good idea especially if you have no idea of anything that has been happening while you have been off. You might feel less apprehensive on your first day back if you know what has been going on.

Give you more time to worry about everything else!

See if you can get your costs covered for childcare, or the time added to your holiday hours.

I think these are reasonable requests, seeing as you are not getting paid for it.

Are you returning from maternity leave?

I have also been asked to go in for an update and meet new members of the team but I just said it wasn't convenient to get childcare (for 3) and could I have the update on the first day back.

They didn't have a choice, you can't be forced into it. Can they send you an update pack to read through in advance with key points?

why wouldn't you go? surely it would only take an hour max, take baby with you. I did. I assuming it's a job you want to go back to?

Did yours agree to it. I did say I didn't think I would be able to do it as I can't sort out childcare without notice and seen as we are now heading into Thursday and nobody has rung me yet I can't see it happening.

I went in with baby, combined it with the trawl round the office's so every bugger could havea good old nosey.

but, seriously, if you want to go back it's worth being flexible... you'll need flexibility from them soon enough... so good to be on good terms.

I work at a distribution centre so no-one under 18 is allowed on site. Taking baby (+ others) isn't always an option.

You shouldn't feel you have to go to 'keep in' with them in case you need something from them in the future
