No contract, no wage slips advice

Hi,
I've been working for a very small company for about 7 months. I've never had a contract and I'm paid cash or sometimes a bank transfer never had a wage slip. My employer has told me they are not paying any NI for me and have not told HMRC that I'm working there.
I'm getting really concerned if it's something I should be notifying HMRC ? In my previous jobs it's always been my employer (had time out to have children so new to coming back to work)
I work 12hours a week at min wage so I've been told I don't pay NI but I'm concerned as I have nothing to show that I work there so feel very anxious . Im meant to be paid on the same day every week only last week I've not been paid. Can't contact employer as shut for Xmas so want to know what I can do.
Any advice on what I need to do or what my employer should be doing would be greatly appreciated.
I really enjoy my job too but this instability is driving me mad!

So you are earning less than £90 per week?
If the firm have no other employers earning above the Lower Earnings Level they don't have to run a PAYE scheme & don't have to report anything to HMRC as long as this is your main or only job.

AFAIK even though you are not earning enough to pay NI, they should still be paying you through the payroll system and generating payslips for you. Give ACAS a ring and get advice from them on your options - bearing in mind that raising this and making a fuss could get you fired.

Look for a new job in the New Year with a more professional employer would be my advice.

It depends if they are operating a Pay as you Earn Scheme Luna.

If all employees earn under the limit then they don't have to operate a scheme at all. The only thing they have to do is keep an internal record for their accounts of how much they pay each employee. However if just one employee earns over the limit then they do have to operate PAYE for everyone regardless of what they earn.
