How is best to ask for payment?

I recently did work for a friend we have had a few discussions about payment but so far they have not paid me and it's been 3 days since I delivered the goal.

I feel awkward about bringing payment up as I've never done this before. I have also had a brief discussion asking for feedback to leave the conversation open about it but they still haven't paid me.

Please can I have advice on how to broach the subject politely?

When Ive worked for friends I've always invoiced The same as any other client. Then chases as per usual terms if necessary. That way it's all 'automated' and almost a step removed.

Thank you it's my first time doing this so I am new to it and they know this. I was filling in for their usual person and I said to pay me what it is they paid them. I'm not actually sure what I should change them.

Also as I am new to this how would I invoice them?

I'm a photographer it was a photo booth. It was X amount for the hours covered but do I charge extra for editing on top of coverage?

I use a free website called Wave for my invoicing as it keeps all my records for me.

I would put different lines on your invoice. The website allows you to set an hourly rate for time. But on a mother line bill per item or similar for fixed amounts.

As long as you itemise clearly what your charges are for you should be fine.

Although, and I know hindsight is great, but if I work for friends I usually fix the price up front before I do anything so it's clear. It's much harder to sort the money stuff with friends than other clients as the dynamic is different.

How much time did the editing take? I would charge. Can you look on the websites for other people who provide your service and see what they do?

Thank you for your lovely responses. I notice most people do a fixed rate it took me a few hours to edit as I had to fix the background on a few pictures but I'd only charge for one. I will use wave to make the invoice.

I have asked the person I was filling in for but he hasn't got back to me. I really appreciate all your help!

No problem good luck with. This is the problem with self employment. The only person at work to bounce things off is yourself 😄

Update; still awaiting payment.

I have been putting it down to the holiday period but I know they have been working in this time.

New resolution had been made from this.
