What rate/number of job applications is reasonable?

With Christmas I feel there have been less vacancies being advertised

I'm not claiming JSA (or whatever it is called now) as I have a temporary Christmas job

I've applied for 6 over about 6 weeks - sometime none during a week other weeks 2 or 3 plus 2 agencies

My mum thinks I am slacking - DH can't beleive the amount of work that goes into a job application

I am looking for a great job, rather than the temporary one I have now; one that will use my skills

Am I being too picky? I guess I am limited by wanting part time

I think 1 a week is pretty poor. I would say 1 a day is probably more reasonable and would still only take an hour or two maximum.

And yes, you are limiting yourself by looking for part time, why don't you consider full time? Very few places actively look for part time, you're more likely to get part time hours after doing the role full time for a significant period of time and building trust with your employer.

Have you joined a recruitment agency? I'd say maybe 3 a week would be what I'd go for. If you work in a particular field don't flood it with your cv

Since leaving university 11 years ago the longest period of unemployment I have had was 3 weeks. I used to set myself the target of 4 applications a day to complete.

Something that I have noticed over the years a woman will only apply for a job if her skills match the advert exactly. A man will apply even if he very loosely fits the advert.

Oh I've only been out of work about 9 days in total 5 days in April before my first temp & 4 days before this one

The agencies don't do pt so didn't register me & I can't do ft as I have a health condition that precludes it

I'll keep at it

It depends how much you want/need a job. If you're holding out for a great job and pt hours, I think you're doing well to find 1 per week to apply for.

If there's a reason you need a job quickly, you need to be less picky.

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 08/12/2016 17:24

Ha, according to the Jobcentre everyone should be spending 30 hrs per week on job applications Shock
In real life a generally apply for 2 or 3 a week and have never been out of work long.

Katymac · 08/12/2016 18:09

Yes for years I'd do anything as long as I was working, but now I'd rather temp & find something interesting.

I guess that fact that I am looking for a bit more money makes it harder

But all of the jobs I have applied for I think I would enjoy doing

It totally depends on the job. For a job in my field really good opportunities sit cod along that often, so one a week would be all I could find.

I don't really have a field

Ex nursery manager with an EYP & a BSc in Systems Analysis & Change Management

Nightmare!!
