I am a nurse and have been constantly stressed out due to the usual NHS problems, staffing, no support, unmanageable caseload etc. But... I was happily married and am now 4 months pregnant. However... I have just split from my husband from his deceit, no fault of my own and my world has come crushing down around me. I feel like I just cannot cope with work AT ALL at present. I am emotional due to pregnancy, emotional due to my husband being a class A horrible person and emotional at the thought
of having to 'get on with it' at work with no support. Do you think a GP would sign me off?

Yes I think you have good reason to take time off from a stressful job. I work in a similar stressful NHS environment and have had colleagues take time off for all manner of stressful life events such as ill relatives/ kids in trouble with the police and marriage break ups. You need to recognise that you are going tthrough a major life stress and need time to recover and come to terms with things. You can sign yourself off for a week I think and I'm sure your GP would be sypathetic and sign you off with stress for longer if need be. You cannot do your job properly under the circumstances. I really hope things improve for you soon.
