Anyone ever transferred to an other government department??

Can you let me know what happened or should have happened with pay? I transferred half way through a month and my new dept is saying my old dept should pay me until the end of the month (which they have done) and then claim it back from new dept, however new dept are now saying that they have overpaid me and are asking for me to repay the money back. My new dept doesn't have me on payroll yet and hasn't paid me as apparently old dept haven't sent them info that they need. Anyone have any idea what the heck is meant to happen and how to put it right?? They don't seem to want to speak to one another directly just through me which is a bit Confused

When I did this option 1 happened, old department paid me until end of month and then new department claimed it back from them.

How can new department have overpaid you when you're not on their payroll yet?

MrsSchadenfreude · 02/12/2016 07:58

You shouldn't be getting involved, the payroll people should be able to sort this out between themselves!

They are right that your first dept should have paid you for the first month. But HR should have told the new payroll people your details and it should have carried on from there.

JellyWitch · 02/12/2016 08:08

Do you have a budget manager in your unit who can get onto this for you? And yes, the old dept should be able to claim back any overpay direct from your new one: it happens all the time.

It sounds possibly as though someone hasn't put the right forms in on the right day. In my experience, payroll cut off for end of the month is usually in the first week so you need to get this sorted ASAP.

The payroll people in the two depts normally just sort it out between them. People transfer all the time so they should be used to it.

Sorry - old dept are saying they have overpaid me. I'm so confused I don't know why they can't sort it out between themselves.

Can you phone the shared services provider (DWP? It is for lots of the depts)? Also make contact with your PCS rep and ask them to speak to their employee relations contact to get this resolved. I just had an issue like this with one of my members (am a union rep) who had come back to our dept after a loan to a other one and her pay had been cocked up. They have resolved it and are making an emergency payment next week.

Have you made sure your bank details are on your new department's system for December's payroll? Bank details aren't always transferred between departments so you may have to input them separately via Oracle/RM/whatever hideous system your department uses.

Flumplet · 02/12/2016 22:26

Yep - filled in new start form with bank details on my first day. I've asked my old payroll to contact new payroll - no further updates as yet.
