What's the earliest I can leave my job? Notice period question

I've bee offered a new job, which is great. It's in my normal field and part time, so good.

I've been working in an unrelated field pt since January just to keep some pennies coming in.

I work 2 shifts of 4.75 hours per week.

I have to give a months notice.

I have 6 shifts annual leave accrued. I'm taking 2 of those at Christmas.

My new job starts 4 Jan.

What's the earliest date I can put in my resignation letter. I work Mondays and Fridays at present.

Can anyone advise me please?

Surely you need to speak to HR or whoever deals with this stuff. No one in here will know your company polices eg some companies might let you use up annual leave instead of working notice.

I think you need to give your notice tomorrow - as the fourth is Sunday - and then ask for the outstanding annual leave to be taken on the 23rd, 26th, 30th and 2nd (although they may choose to pay you for those shifts and have you work instead). That would mean your last worked shift would be on the 20th December and your final day (if you give notice tomorrow) would be 2nd Jan.

You should hand notice in now. Is it a month or 4 weeks' notice? That will either leave you to work 2 shifts and get paid for remaining shifts this month but take as AL or work those 6 and be paid for leave in hand. You need your leaving date to be before 4th.

Confused You can put it in as early as you like, as long as you give at least your minimum contractual notice period.

If your new job starts on 4 Jan you need this employment to end on 3 Jan so you need to hand your notice in by Saturday.
