hi there, i am heading back to work in september and my little girl who will be one by then will go to a childminder, i have to go to work and discuss my preferred part time hours, does anyone have any advice of which hours work best? more mornings (say 4 or 5 a week) or fewer full days (say 2 or 3 a week)? i am not sure what is best, does anyone have any thoughts? thanks

i prefer full days, it is nice to have a couple of stress free days where we get up at our own pace.

How long is your commute? If more than an hour a day I would do full days.

I do one full day and a couple of afternoons. I prefer the full day TBH. They always want me to come a bit earlier or stay a little longer on the half days and it can be a pain.

Agree about the commute too.

With DS1 I worked Weds 1-5 and 9-5 Thurs and Fris.
Now DS2 is here I work 9.30-4.30 Weds-Fri. It works out a bit better as I don't have to leave tne house til 9 to get the bus with the double buggy.

I do 4 days 9.30 - 4.30. I can really recommend doing slightly shorter hours, means I am not in a real rush in the mornings and DS is still in a good mood when I get home.

I prefer full days as it gives more time to get into the work when you're there, and proper time away from it when you are not. Half days too open to being stretched to longer as well!

Full days for me. I work 3 days a week (6 hours commuting), if I did mornings, I would be commuting 10 hours a week and paying for a full travelcard on a part-time salary. More than this though, I'm either in work mode or mummy mode and can plan days, see people and generally get stuff done. Most people I know work full days, people tend to switch to mornings when their kids start school.

full days - agree with beansprout.
