DBS check in progress with one employer but now have another offer...

Does anyone know where I stand in this situation?

I have a job offer by email, I haven't signed (or seen) any contract yet and they have started to process my DBS check.

I have now had another job offer for a job I really want, they will also require DBS clearance.

What should I do? Will I be liable for the cost of the first DBS check?

I'd expect to be liable for the cost; yes. Hopefully you won't be though.
