Signed off with stress - confidentiality

I might have to go to court to testify (depends if the person pleads guilty/not guilty, which I'll find out at the end of the month).

I'm feeling really stressed at the moment, I'm even getting palpitations etc from writing this down.

If I get signed off with stress do I have to give my line manager a reason why? I cannot trust them to keep this info to themselves.

Also, if I do have to go to court next year do I have to tell them why I need the time off? I cannot take annual leave in term time (I don't actually work in a school but it's linked to one IYSWIM) so that's not an option.

This is all adding to my stress as I'm worried about my colleagues finding out. I live in a small village so would be devastated if people found out.

Do you have a witness care officer attached to your case? They would really be in the best place to advise on what the potential plea etc will be. The officers often have an idea on how it's going to go.
They can also introduce special measures for you if you are really distressed, which may include not having to go to court.
Really sorry you're feeling like this, but they would be a good first point of call.
Also, try Victim Support. They are also very good and impartial, and will try and help. I'll try and find the number for you

I don't have a witness care officer yet, will get one if it goes to court. The officer I've had contact with thinks the person will plea 'not guilty' but we shall see.

They've told me a bit about the special measures but said that a support person would go into more detail if it gets that far.

If you think your line manager would blab, could you speak to his/her manager? Or HR?
