Any audiologists out there?

Would you recommend audiology as a career? Do you enjoy the job? Are there jobs around, and is there a possibility of career progression?

I would be going back as a mature student, but fees would be paid. I'm not sure if my qualifications would be ok, I'll have to check with the local university about that.

Funnily enough I'be not long started in a band 3 assistant post and want to train, but I can't fund it. Would you mind PMing me please to give me some info about the training you hope to do?

I have a search on NHS jobs which I've been monitoring for a while now and it does seem that there are usually fewer than 50 audiology jobs (all bands) nationwide compared to say around 600 OT jobs and 300 radiography jobs. However if you're already in post that wouldn't be such an issue. In my dept there seem to be lots of band 7+ roles but very few band 5

And yes I think it's enjoyable/ fulfilling (and relatively low stress!)

Hi OP, I've been an audiologist for 12 years now. I love it. There's never a dull moment and every day is different. Because I live quite rurally we dont specialise as such, so we work with newborns right up to those aged 100+. Any chance you'd relocate? We are crying out for good audiologists in NI there are any number of vacant posts and that isn't likely to change. 50% of the workforce is over 55 so plenty of room for progression.
