If on a contract it reads

"Your salary will be payable in 12 equal instalments on or around the 24th of the month for the whole calendar month, part in arrears and part in advance"

Does that mean when I start on the 15th of this month I will be paid from the 15th to the 30th? I'm sure that's what it means but just want to check as if I'm only going to get paid from the 15th to the 24th it's going to be a really tough month for me next month and need to think about cancelling some direct debits.

Sounds like it. If they get you into payroll quickly enough. It's quite good you're getting it partly in advance.

Yes, paid from the 15-30/31 BUT you might miss the deadline for payrole, and get paid a month and a half salary around 24th Oct.
Worth establishing this soonish if it's going to cause issues for you.
