I've been doing casual work at a secondary school, doing exam invigilation. I've had no training on how to treat the students at all. Today there was a girl (16) who'd been in a car crash & has a bad back. During the exam she asked to go out & stretch, and I went with her into the corridor. She said she was in pain, so on impulse I offered to massage her back. She said 'no' & looked a bit embarrassed, after all she doesn't know me. But I have a ds nearly her age & I often give his back a rub after sport. Now, with hindsight, I'm worried she might tell someone & it might get out of hand, they might think I'm a perv! Should I tell my boss? (A bit awkward.) What do you think?

She's not easy to talk to. I can't see her being sypathetic - I can't foresee what she'd say. Probably that I'm incredibly stupid, but as I said, have had no training.

FWIW, never touch a student or even offer to. Obviously you were doing it in a nice way but it can easily be misconstrued.

I'd have a word with your boss, just in case.

Yes, it was unprofessional. I'm kicking myself.

Still can't bring myself to bring it up, in case she doesn't say anything. My boss has a low enough opinion of me anyway because I'm new & still trying to figure out how it all works, from the snippets of information she does give me.
