Pros/cons of being a midwife

I'm not sure if this is the best board or not. I work in an office environment, it's not something I enjoy but pays the bills. I never went to college or university but I did have good grades, just never knew what I wanted to do. Midwifery has always interested me, but even more so since I had my own ds 5 months ago. Are there any midwives out there who could give their opinion. It is the polar opposite of anything I've ever done. I'm in Scotland btw.

Not a midwife but have friends and family who are.

Cons from the outside seem to be:
Low pay and worsening conditions eg pension age
Nights and long shifts
Risk of litigation
Physically very hard (back pain etc)
