sahm brain cells diminishing- do they come back when going back to work?

Since I have been a full time sahm for 3 years I really feel as if my brain cells are disappearing. Has anyone else felt this happen? Do you think that when I return to work they will come back again or is this loss likely to be permanent?! I like to tell people that I am now using different parts of my brain in raising my children, but it worries me that my IQ is getting less now!

Mine came back !!! Still have blonde moments at work - but feel also EQ increased hugely - am much more empathetic since becoming mummy !! Although I have just told very senior person (who works for me on contract) to go to naughty step ! (quite seriosuly!)

don't ask me. i've just found a jar of marmalade in my handbag...
Hate to think what's in the fridge at home

scatterbrain · 31/01/2007 15:43

That would be a Paddington Bear moment !!! Or would it have to be a marmalade sandwich in your hat for that ?

sorry - no donkt think it does - don't think it is to do with SAHM - more to do with going through a pregnancy

In my case (WOHM with a 3 year old and a 1 year old), the brain cells have gone for good.

scatterbrain · 01/02/2007 13:44

They'll come back ! My dd is 6 now and my grey cells are super-efficient and I am all powerful super-human at work !

I did doubt it for a few years ! Would never take 5 yrs off again !!!

My ability to spell and anything to do with grammar seems to have gone completely.

Mine came back I reckon. I was a sahm for 4 ish years and have been working again for 3 odd years, my brain's fine.
That brain training has my brain age at 28 atm, which I'm pleased with!

earlycomputers · 02/02/2007 14:17

great - I am so glad the brain cells dont completely go away - thanks for your comments!

They do come back but have recently found that if you get pregnant again they diminish more rapidly than last time!
