nurseries in Hammersmith or Richmond

Hi,

I am just doing a bit of research here as I am going for a second interview in Hammersmith next week so need to look for a nursery for my 8mnth old daughter.

Does anyone have anything good or bad to say about nurseries they use in the Hammersmith area or else in Richmond?

Thanks

Brilliant nursery called Working Mums in Mortlake on the Lower Richmond Road, midway between the two

There's a Jigsaw day nursery actually in Hammersmith Broadway. Their literature looks quite good but the location isn't brilliant - their outdoor space overlooks the bus terminal - and it's at the expensive end.
When she was younger my dd went to Playdays - there's one in Barton Road and one in Comeragh Road. More Barons Court than Hammersmith but pretty close. They were great with her up to about 2. Afetr that a few of us felt that our kids could be learning a bit more and moved them to a local Montessori but they were very good for your dds age.
There are a couple of others - depends where the job would be which would be convenient.

DS went to the Playdays nursery in Barons Court for 3 months (from 5 mths old) - I have to say that we weren't thrilled with it, and luckily a new nursery within walking distance of our then flat opened up and we transferred him there. It's great, but in Notting Hill, so presumably not handy for you. Best of luck with the interview!

I know Jigsaw is expensive but I can't recommend it highly enough. My 26 mth old son has been at Jigsaw in Wandsworth since about 9 months old and we both think it's wonderful. The staff are really friendly, the food is great, the premises are lovely, they aren't pushy but I feel they definitely stimulate the children rather than just giving them the same kinds of activities to do every day - and I felt this even with the baby room. I would suggest you book a visit to the Hammersmith Jigsaw and see what you think yourself.

Just my personal opinion but when I was finding a nursery in that area I went and had a look around Hammersmith Jigsaw and while the indoor facilities were good I agree about the outdoor play area being a bit grim. My main concern however was that the staff member - one of the managers - who showed me around spent 75% plus of the time she was with me talking to her son - he's one of the inmates - talking to her sons carers about her son, talking to other carers about her son, talking to me about her son etc etc.

Also the staff in the baby room struck me as being a bit static they were all just sat on the floor and didn't really seem to interact with me or the babies...

I do think however that it is a very personal decision and I may just have caught them on a bad day, in contrast I really liked the staff and ambience at Playdays on Barton Road.

Good luck with the interview though.
