Applying for a job within the same service?

Work in the public sector - happy in my job and get on well with my manager and team but ready for something a little different.

Have seen a job advertised in another team within the same service, which I am really keen to apply for - its being advertised externally. I had been looking for secondments to that team, so a permanent post over there seems a really good option!

Just wondering, when applying for a job within the same workplace, what people's views are on telling your current manager? I think she knows I'd want to move somewhere else within the next 6 months but not sure if I'd be doing something really taboo in telling or not telling her??

Usually your line manager would need to 'sign-off' your application?

For the sake of good will, I'd have a chat to her about it.

If this is civil service they will write to your line manger about you sick leave and is you are under any disciplinary warnings or notice periods. Depending on who is running the campaign it will either need to be signed off on the application form, or she will be sent an automatic e-mail.

Either way she will know - better it comes from you!
