How to work out whether I can afford to go part time

DD is 6 months and I will be going back to work in the NHS when she turns 1. She is signed up at a nursery linked to my work so I will be paying through salary sacrifice. I have a student loan and I am paying into an NHS pension. I am trying to figure out whether I can afford to go back part time. I have always been horrendous at guesstimating how much I will earn after tax etc so I'm wondering are there any websites etc which would be able to work this out for me?! I have got in touch with payroll who have said they will work things out for me but not until the end of the month and if I am going to go back part time I will need to put in my application soonish as I've heard it can take quite a while for them to consider and I know of people who've been refused had to appeal etc... Any ideas?!

Try this:-

www.i-resign.com/uk/financialcentre/tax_calculator.asp

If you currently earn £25k and want to work three days then you'll need to use £15k as your salary. I'm sure you realise that already though! Grin
