Wish me luck, meeting tomorrow to discuss changing my days to term time only

As I have NOT been made redundant, damn damn damn.

I have requested a meeting to discuss changing my working days. Currently I work in the office Monday-Thursday 8:00 till 4:00 all year round. Tomorrow I am going to ask if I can work a five day week but term time only, with a shorter day on Thursday & Friday and working those two days from home.

That would just suit me so much better & I would get all the holidays off.

I just don't know how my employers will react. They are an Indian based company that I was outsourced to a year ago and their HR policy to the people based in India is so different from over here. Must make sure I am up-to-date on the legalities of this.

Good luck, you are entitiled to request this and they are entitled to say no if it doesn't fit with the working requirements of the company, but I can't see how it would affect the co too much to be honest, bar the huge 6 week summer hols, but then I'm not your employer so good luck once again

I know. I have put a document together, stating what I want advantages to them & me. Also a section on what we could do if cover was needed during the holidays - see below
Mitigation of any Issues that may arise from my absence during the school holidays.
? I could arrange to be available on the phone if any issues arise in my absence.
? I am prepared to work from home during the holidays occasionally if necessary would expect this to be paid on a pro rata basis or take the equivalent time off in lieu.
? If my presence is required during the school holiday, it may be possible with adequate notification. This would be dependent on childcare arrangements and this possibility could be confirmed at a later date. I would expect this to be paid on a pro rata basis or take the equivalent time off in lieu.

Basically I want to cover any argument they may have so that they cannot find a business reason to reject it.

Did you have any success? Hope so.

Don't know yet - should hopefully find out more on Monday, when I have a follow up meeting booked. What is very odd though is that my boss (well my bosses boss) doesn't want to bother HR as it is 'not really needed'. Which is really confusing me. If it was a UK company I would assume that they didn't want HR because they were saying yes, however in an Indian company HR do not appear to have the same clout!
By the way I am having a forum rep with me so it means I have my backup/witness but he doesn't

It is a bloody good justification, so if anybody wants a copy I will send it to them to amend for their own circumstances. (both versions, the 6 year old 4-day week one or the new term time only one)

Good luck!!

Good luck! I remember asking to go part-time after my maternity leave and it was just so nerve wracking, asking for something that it felt like so much hinged on! Let us know how you get on.

Debbiethemum · 05/02/2007 09:24

Thanks - I am getting very nervous about it now. Probably because I want it so much.

good luck! I work part time, and when my dd's started school I negotiated to work extra days so I can have the holidays off. It is the best of both worlds, good luck!

pindy · 06/02/2007 09:14

How did it go?

Debbiethemum · 06/03/2007 22:25

An update

I got it !!!!
I am now working term time only, except for Wednesdays during he summer when I go in to catch up unless I am actually on holiday (so 4 out of the 6)
Monday to Wednesday is normal 8-4 (1/2 hour lunch)
Thursday 8-2, so home in time for the school run
Friday 9-3, working from home

Blackmail helps

OK Blackmail quite a strong word
When they turned it down, I requested 4 weeks parental leave in August.
So they decided to negotiate
