Boss sed i cant return to work part time???

I decided i wanted to return to work earlier then the year i planned to take off as i am getting very lonley on my own and i do miss working 9( i know im sad)
Went in work yesterday to speak to my boss about returning to work 3days aweek, he was dead againt it and sed if i applied to work part time he wudnt accept me bak and wud tell hr to find me a job in another office in the building which i do not want to do, so now am going to return full time, will i miss out on my dd growing up!!

Any one who has gone back to work full time how do you find it???

hi youngmum, your boss is being a bit unfair. Legally you have the right to apply for flexible working, in writing, and your boss has to consider this and give you a good reason (again in writing) as to why he can't accommodate this. He might just not want to think about how he'd accommodate it so he's trying to put you off!
How old is your dd? I went back to work 3 days when my dd was 6 months old, now she's 3.5 I work 4 days. My friend went back full time (to a new job) after her mat leave and found it hard, she's now negotiated 4 days. What kind of work are you in?

He has to seriously consider your request and give genuine reasons why it won't work. Not just because he doesn't want to.

ym there is legislation about flexible working, but i am no expert as my employer is very good on such things.

in your position i would not want to work wtih such a horrible git. is there really an option of p/t elsewhere?

well she is only 10weeks at the min and had decided to go back when she is 6months old, he sed i can apply for it but he will fight against it as he doesnt believe the job i do is a part time one even though i nearly alway have my work done by 12, we have now been taken over so he believes we will be really busy which i can understand but still think it is unfair. i do not wan to leave and then be out of work as finding a new job is neva easy and me and dp are trying to save to buy a house!!!!

Agree with the others. There are set procedures you both need to follow. I was told intitially by my employer there was no way I could work part time. After getting advice and following procedure, much negotiation in writing, I got what I wanted pretty much.

I returned to work when DD was 3 months old but only on a part time basis. I left one job during my pregnancy so decided to wait to find another one (I was training as a Nursery Nurse then). I was offered 2 days a week and then once I qualified I was offered 3.This was ok, sometimes a bit of a struggle with coursework and stuff but on the whole, not too bad.

Now I am working full time and going to uni and even without the uni thing, working full time and doing the mum thing is really difficult. I am even considering demoting myself at my latest job so as I can apply to do only 3-4 days per week.

It is so stressful and you do feel that you are missing out. The beauty of my job is that up until recently, DD and I were together, but now she is in pre-school and I am running the baby unit. I see her for 2 hours a day during the week and its not enough. When I do see her, she is tired and often stressy which in turn stresses me so we end up shouting at each other until I give in a send her to bed because i'm too tired to argue with her.

If you can afford to go part time, I would definately do it.

I applied to go part time, the request was (apparently) considered and I was refused.

The law says that employers have to consider it, but they don't have to do it if they can cobble together a good enough reason. In my case they said that my job spec meant I had to be in the office every day and that was the end of that

I don't want to sound defeatist but if your employer doesn't want you to work part time, they can easily find a "good enough" reason why.

I am still working full time but for a different company. It's hard and I miss dd but I like my job which makes things easier.
