Interview then nothing!

This has now happened to me twice recently. I have the interview and all seems to have gone well and I'm thinking there's an 80-90% chance of being offered the job, then nothing I don't hear from them. Is this a thing? I can't believe they don't just pop a rejection letter in the post / via email? I feel like I've lost my confidence now with no feedback to go on as not really sure what I'm doing wrong when I thought it had gone well?

I had one a while back and HR phoned and said they wanted to give me so feedback and then read through the interview notes and said someone else just pipped me to the post and they had no real feedback to give! At least I had a no though and could move on. Maybe it's my age? The way I look? I just feel so down.

Prosecco, sorry you are feeling discouraged. Did you try asking the recent interviewers for feedback?

Don't take it personally. It's more and more common. There are some very rude people out there!

What was the role/organisation?

I haven't asked for feedback as I haven't heard back? Do they expect you to follow up and ask?

I think it is reasonable to ask, if you haven't heard from them for weeks, about the status of your application and for feedback. If I was going through a recruitment agent, I would be asking the recruitment agent to chase them.

Did you have relevant experience for the role? Was it a junior or senior role you were applying for?

Thanks for coming back to me it was a field training role and I have years of relevant experience. Today I have emailed the one that hasn't responded for weeks, the other was only last week and I only met with a member of the team as the head office is miles away to see if I was suited to the role. I could hardly get a word in edgeways and was way more experienced than she was so perhaps she didn't give me good feedback. I did send an email to HR on Friday to say I was still interested but they didn't acknowledge it. The job is no longer being advertised not sure that's relevant.

The first one you would have to wait for their response - hopefully they will reply and fingers crossed for you.

The second one is an exceptionally bad interviewer. After explaining the role (I hope she did), she should have asked opened-ended questions and let you talk. Seems pointless to get someone in for an interview and not use the opportunity to find out more and listen. This may be a lucky escape if she had her own issues to work through.

There are lots of reasons why they may not have got back. Maybe someone else was their first choice and they might still come back if the first choice declines (up to you if you are still interested). We were interviewing candidates for a role and then the job got pulled at the last minute due to internal reasons. There could be Brexit fears. Some companies take a really long time to come to a decision - people need to discuss, are away, busy ...

I hope you don't lose hope. With your experience, it should just be a matter of time.
