Is sickness supposed to be paid?

I work for a big company and was wondering if authorised absences are paid?

DP doesn't get sick pay. Tis shite

Need to check with your HR department. Where I am, if you have less than 6 months service, you get SSP only, and thereafter you get 20 days rising to 90 days depending on length of service. This is for sick leave only, and not for looking after a sick child etc. For that kind of thing, we either have to take a days' holiday or more, or have it as unpaid leave.
