Giving up work

I'm a single Mum with a 9 year old daughter and I work full time. I have no help from Ex as he lives abroad.
The long and the short of it is I can't do it anymore.
I work Local Government so although changes are apparent and restructure under way, there are advantages and pension.

I'm seriously thinking of giving up work and spending more time with my daughter and starting my own business.

I have 10k in the bank so could manage in the short term.

My head says no, my heart says yes.

Life is too short I feel and I could do cleaning etc if need be!

Advice please as I need to make a decision by end of June! 😀

I have no experience of any of this, so you will probably get better advice , but I would suggest that you view starting a business really really objectively. Don't allow yourself to consider it as a knee jerk reaction, you obviously have transferable skills, but you might be thinking "grass is greener...". Fwiw I would get my ducks in a row, and then pick a moment when it is advantageous to leave(redundancy package maybe?)

I help women do this - so this is what I suggest. First get clear on what your skills are, what sort of work you enjoy (e.g. detail, being creative, organising, etc), what experience/skills do you have that other might pay for, what your values are e.g. independence, freedom, stability, honesty, loyalty, etc. If you run a business, you need to be multi-skilled or learn fast. And that's ok - lots of women do this beautifully. You'll need to do the business itself, plus marketing, sales, accounts etc. If you have an idea already for a business, could you start it part-time eg evenings and weekends? Is there a need for the business idea you have? Ask friends/family. Talk to other mums running a similar business. Lots of helpful groups on Facebook to get support. Could you reduce the hours you work currently and build the business alongside? If you're thinking of a franchise or one of the multi level marketing businesses, explore a few and find one that's a good fit for you. Good luck with your decision. I set up my own business 4 years ago and I've never regretted it but it can be tough in the first couple of years.
