Redundancy - Trial Periods

Are any of the employment lawyers about?

Can you roll a trial period (in a suitable alternative role) up as part of someones' notice period?

Seems wrong to me.

Surely a trial period is focussed on that role and the notice period should start if you then find that alternative role unsuitable providing you with time to find redeployment.

I'd agree with you. my sisters company is faced with redundancy at the moment due to relocation of offices. It doesn't affect her as she was employed with the knowledge that the offices were moving and she agreed to work in the new office. But for her team - they have been given a 3 month trial in new office and can hand notice in at any point during the three month period and must give their full notice period as well - so at the most they would have to work in new setting for four months.
