Reference help plz

Posting for DH. Started a new job last week, signed contract which states conditional on 2 satisfactory references and given in on start date as only got it 2 days prior.
Not that I expect any negative references from those listed on the form but what happens if there are. So far job is going well and the work I well within capabilities, think I am just paranoid because 2 other offers of employment were turned down for this job! Can you be dismissed after starting?

Yes, if the offer is made conditional upon receipt of satisfactory references then he could be dismissed without notice.

However, I really doubt you need to worry about that!

Also can they request a reference from a previous employer who is not listed on the form. That would be concerned as we would expect it to be refused or negative due to a number of factors mainly that he made a statement when he left about the poor treatment of staff
