I am a CM. I charge £3.30 ph. I have a contract with the parent which states the hours I will have the child - I do a lot of part time so am pretty flexible - the minimum I do is 2.5 hours with one child. Other CMs will prefer full time, or may charge you for a full day even if you only need until 3.30 say, as by taking your child they cannot have another the same age who may be there until 6pm.
My parents pay monthly in arrears, but I know many minders charge monthly in advance, or even weekly in advance. HTH

My c/minder is £2 an hour & she has ds 3 days a week She's very flexible as I am a student & my hours change. However the 3 days she has him from 9am til 4.30pm as it's easier for me to study & revise a few hours when I am not in uni.

She does not ask for payment when she does not have him, although I know some who do.

Sometimes I feel guilty when she just has him 3 days a week & people call her looking for a child minded 5 days a week, she says no.. but when I suggest looking for someone else she threatens me with death!! lol

It was lovely this morning seeing ds run to her & her to him with their arms out! Does my heart good

Totally depends on the area. I am green with envy ( would do face if I could) at those paying £2.00 an hour. Mine charges £4.00 an hour and I am happy with her so thats the main thing

fireflyfairy2 · 08/01/2007 13:40

Well, I am in the sticks here! Middle of nowhere in N.I!!

As long as you're happy with her that's the main thing And as long as she is good to your child

It depends where you are, i'm in bedfordshire and was quoted between £4.00 and £5.00 an hour.

funnypeculiar · 08/01/2007 13:41

I pay £5/hour plus £1 for each meal
Note to self, do NOT live in stupid Surrey - is full of rich people...

Although she is lovely, and DS had to be pulled away from there on Thurs yelling 'I want to live with Vicky, and never go home'

Around here its 2.50- 3.50 an hour and it all depends on the CM how they charge. Most will take p/t places but may prefer 3 full days or every morning. The key is to work out your ideal hours and then the compromise you can do.

Another idea is to see if there are any nurseries that offer short term/ emergancy care. One of my local nurseries (nr our university) usually has places for one or two kids on short term basis and they can offer just an hour or two. I've used them for a short term job contract and for job interviews and when the carpets got cleaned!

I'm in S Yorks, and my £3.30 ph is inclusive of everything bar nappies, babymilk/food (I provide fingerfood upwards just not purees) and toddler group fees is appropriate. NB this is not an advert, I am in the process of winding down my business as DD is starting school, and I am ready for a new challenge
