2 week business trip abroad - should I leave my DS?

Hello, am interested in hearing from others who have had experience leaving their child/ren for work. I am self-employed & and have been offered a great project in US/Canada for 2.5 weeks. I left DS once before for 6 days (with my mum) and it was fine but...2.5 weeks?? DS will be 18 months when I go and would be looked after by granny/nursery/dad. We need the £ as I am pregnant again!

Any similar experiences??

In your circumstances (i.e. Fantastic family support) I think I would do it. As mine have got older, and mycareer has taken off, I've sent my DC to stay with my mum for a week over the school holidays. My mum did the same to me, and imI have very find entities of spending of being with my lovely nan.

It'll be fine. I went back to travelling for work when ds was 6 months old, and now he's 9 and he and dh have survived! DH doesn't have any help either.

Thanks, SexNames, it's a very good point about being a guy! I have googled too many scare stories of doing damage to children by leaving them/breathing in and out/blinking...

Thanks CMOT, does DH work or was he with baby full-time? My DS will be pulled around a bit for the time I'm away (i.e. 2 days here, 3 days there) so won't be consistent care. Lawks, I'm normally quite a no-nonsense mum so not sure why this has got me flapping about!

DH works FT, so when ds was a baby he was in nursery, now its school and wrap around or holiday club.

I think care between their dad, nursery and granny is pretty consistent myself!

He will be fine, like a previous poster said if it was a man nobody would bat an eyelid.

Just make sure you have insurance that covers you when pregnant - US medical treatment costs are astronomical.

I travelled a few times when my children were little. It can work if you have a good support network. I think if your children are with consistent care as in with people they know and love, it doesn't matter too much if it's not consistent as to who is with your DS on each day. I would encourage you all to tell your DS each day what is happening and who he is going to be with. As for flapping about ... I think that's pretty normal especially as you'll be away for some time. If you are smiley , happy and confident when you leave (fake it if you need to), your DS will feel ok about the situation too.

It will be fine. He'll be looked after and he'll never remember it anyway!
And you wouldn't be thinking twice if you were a man.
I'm going to the US for work soon and it hasn't occurred to me to worry too much!
