Bank holidays and PT

Sorry - I know this has come up before but I'm a bit confused. We get 27.5 days leave plus bank holidays. I work three days a week and have always had 21.5 (any working days falling on a bank holiday have to be taken as leave). This year I've been told my entitlement is 19.5 but can't work out how they've come to this figure and our HR dept hasn't come back to me. Do any experts out there know how this might have been worked out?

If a FT worker is entitled to 27.5+8 = 35.5, you're entitled to 35.5/5*3 =21.3, rounded to the nearest half day (21.5).

So no, I have no idea how they've concluded that!

Me neither!

Does your leave period go from April to March?
There are only 6 bank holidays rather than 8 in the year April 2016 to March 2017 because Easter was early this year.
Could this explain it???

What days do you work / the bank holidays over Christmas / New Year - is there a company shut down ? - do these days maybe affect it ?

Popartist · 30/03/2016 22:12

No - we work between Xmas and New Year. Our leave year is April to March but if it was reduced next year shouldn't it have increased this year? In the past it has been pro- rata ed on basis of 8 bank hols.

Count through all of the A/L you have had from April 2015 to March 2016 & all of the bank holidays that year prior to last Friday (Good Friday 25/3/16) &If you didn't have to take Easter off out of your usual 21.5 days they have probably pulled the 2 days out of April 2016 to March 2017 which is why you are left with 19.5 days for this year.
Similar has happened where I work & I had gone to having -15 hours (ie minus 15 hours) to carry into next years (April 2016 to March 2017) leave which will straight away get taken off my leave allowance for the next leave cycle.
HTH.

I work or, holidays run April to March. This coming year my holiday allowance is much lower than last, this is due to Easter falling twice in the holiday period 2015 - 2016! Hope this helps

knaffedoff · 30/03/2016 22:26

Work pt that is

PseudoBadger · 30/03/2016 22:29

Yes our leave year April to March this year had 10 bank holidays, this year has 6...

Popartist · 30/03/2016 22:39

Thanks everyone. I can see that they may be calculating it based on the number of bank holidays but even with 6 I make it 20 days pro rata ed and surely if they reduce it when there are 6 they should increase when there are 10. They've not done this in the past.

Quick update. It was calculated on bank holidays but my contract says I get 21.5 days each year so it's been sorted. Thanks everyone.
