Charity Shop managers, anyone do or done this?

Looking for some tips as I am considering applying for a part time managers job, never worked for a charity before in a paid position before. Have worked in a charity shop years ago though.

I have an uncle who does this - the emphasis seems to be much more on pukka retail, so more like managing a normal shop than any particular 'charity' skills.

Thanks, not sure which one it is yet, they seem to be run very differently here, some are full on commercial and some have more emphasis on the volunteers them selves that help in the shop, and some are very run down and disorgainised.

I think the ones that are not directed so much from head office as such would be more of a challange, I don't want to run ones where they tut in disdain at everyone who brings in a donation but I suppose that is something I could work on .

oh yes, he works in a very top-down-managed commercial-type one - lots of 'have a nice day' and listing the good stuff on Ebay, def no tutting!

As a customer all I hear from the staff are about hitting targets and not doing well enough last week.
Its hardly surprising when things are so overpriced though...get the job, drop the prices and watch the tills roll
In some they seem to have a minimum price for things...3.99 for manky t-shirt, 5.99 for jeans etc..regardless of condition.
I leave empty handed most trips. Priced out of charity shops

Some of them seem very carried away with prices, I have been a customer for years and done a lot of shopping in them the last 10 years for the kids.

I suppose once I know which one it is I can susu out their style. I know most will have to have targets and afterall they are there to make money.
