internal jobs easier to get

i took a job of much lower grade and pay to my experience at my local council last summer mainly because I got burned out by my old work consulting in london, working long hours and so on and also because this job is right at my door step, close to my children's schools plus may be future opportunities. Anyhow an internal job came up for higher position that will make the whole picture better for me if I got it. Its in different department with people I don't know well. Interview is tomorrow and I am wondering if I have a good chance. Is it easier to get internal jobs?

Well you have the advantage of already knowing the employer and therefore knowing what is important to that company. However it will still come down to how you perform in the interview and what the competition is.

Well... Had interview.
Went good, they said they will be deciding on Friday or today. No one came to talk to me today so I assume no win of a job this time and the answer is no but really I though someone will come to talk to me since this is internal job to tell me why I did not get it. Small part if me thinks may be I am still in running but I don't want to be naive. Any advice on what should I do?

Today or Friday - it's not Friday yet.

Dont give up just yet. They may have offered it to someone else, and are waiting to hear back. If that person passes it could well be you.

If you haven't heard by Monday then I would ring whoever it was and ask when you can expect to hear.

Thank you. Today I got response, they said they came to me yesterday but I was already gone, I work part time. They gave a job to a guy in their department who sits essentially just next to them and knows everything that they now do. They said I was not successful but they good news his job is now becoming available so they going to put job description together, they said I have a good chance of getting the job because they liked me but the guys more knows in detail about position so it will be easier to train. I am taking it easy and not overly excited as he said nothing is guaranty until its done but looking good.
