redundancy situation

My colleague and I where told today we are at risk of redundancy it's a case of one of us volunteering to be made redundant we have the exact same roles however I am pregnant about to go maternity leave does this help me any or is it a case of point scoring?

The company is not allowed to discriminate against you as a consequence of your pregnancy.

I'm not clear whether you want the redundancy or you want the job though?

If you both apply for the redundancy, they shouldn't say they are accepting you because you are about to go on ML.

If you both apply for the job, then they should not say that you get the job because they're worried you might claim discrimination.

Doesn't mean they won't think it, of course.

I was wondered who would they more likely to keep I thought pregnant employees or those on mat leave should be offered the job first. I would rather have the job to be honest.

Why would being pregnant or on maternity leave get you the job over the other person?

If your role is made redundant while you are on maternity leave and there is a suitable alternative vacancy available, you must be offered it. They are unlikely to apply that rule if it's literally a reduction in headcount of the same role, rather than a suitable vacancy elsewhere in the company.

Have they not told you how selection for redundancy will be made?

They asked if one of us would accept voluntary redundancy if not it will go to standard points system as laid out in our context I have however asked them to consider that I have a career Break option and I await to hear answer from that. Apologies if I sounded naive over the pregnancy and keeping the role I've never been in this situation and I had incorrectly read some advice online I know that I don't have any advantage in keeping the original role only if there was another suitable alternative which at present there isn't.

Will the decision be made before you go on Mat leave?

I can take my maternity any time now as it stands I am working to 12th April. We haven't had official consultation just a chat about what's coming up I will see how it goes. I don't want to be unfair to anyone the situation isn't good for either me or my work colleague.
