Which career path to choose?

I have been working with a local housing landlord for the last 17 years and I have been offered consultancy work. I am on maternity leave at the moment but when I go back I have a choice of local work at 37 hours per week or earn the equivalent in working 2-3 days but includes sleeping away from home?

any advice from others in similar situations would be really useful. It's balancing quality time against working local???

I can't comment on your exact case, but as someone who has to sleep away from home sometimes it really isn't that bad. I'd think that doing that for 2-3 days a week then being around 24 hours for the rest would be fantastic. Otherwise you don't see your kids an awful lot during daylight hours. Plus it would cost a lot less in childcare...

Hi yellowpoppy, thanks very much for your comment. I have a hard decision to make as I cannot be a full time mum but the consultancy route looks like it would give me more time with my dds in the daytime and also give me a chance to be able to pick the elder dd up from school some of the week too. I am really worried about sleeping away from home though. How did you find it when you have to sleep away from home - was it hard to start at first and does it get any easier? My mum wants to help out two days a week so it does seem to "fit" if that makes any sense...
