extending mat leave

HI there,

hope someone can help. I am currently on maternity leave, and before I left I agreed to take 39 weeks Maternity leave and my accrued AL, giving me a RTW date in March.

However I feel I was a bit hasty in making this decision and underestimated what time I would like have off.

Does anyone know if I am able to extend my Mat leave by a further 7 weeks (which of course I understand is unpaid) to take a bit more time off and would I still be able to use my AL at the end of this?

Yes you are entitled to one year plus accrued annual leave. So they would have to agree to your request. Best to let them know soon so they can make plans.

You need to give at least 8 weeks notice if you want to change your RTW date though, so you need to speak to them asap really.

Yes you can extend your maternity leave as long as you give the requisite 8 weeks notice, but no they wouldn't have to agree to your request to tack your holiday on to the end of that.

They probably would allow it, but they could require you to return to work instead and take annual leave at another time.
