I'm really going to do learn to touch type this time. Multiple previous failures owing to lack of persistence.

Can anyone recommend an online course? (Free? - Lots seem to be, so is there need to pay?)

Thnak yuo...!

No need to pay - there are lots online which are free. A good one -which is aimed at children but nothing wrong with that - is :

Ratatype.

Thank you also.

I think a multi-tutor approach might be best for me. Lots of practice before progressing to the next level. Muscle memory zero rated

www.typeonline.co.uk/lesson1.html Hiya!!! Try this if you will, I use it to refresh every now and again, but it is for beginners too! :)

Sorry for silence Maria, I'll try that one too, many thanks.

A question for you all, if you don't mind: I'm using as 'main' tutor a course that introduces a lot of top-row letters, and then moves to the bottom row. I have just (yay!) progressed onto the first letters on the bottom line: N and C.

I didn't expect it to be easy, but I am having huge difficulties with the movement D-to-C. My second finger just doesn't move in that direction! I find myself moving my whole hand to reach the C, and however hard I try, the F finger moves with the D finger. Does that make sense? I could change website but I'll hit the problem at some point.

I checked out posture and how my hands should be, and that looks OK(ish), but maybe that IS the problem really? (In which case I need to ask someone in RL to put my hands right.) Though I am also rather old (bus pass not free TV license yet) so could it be inflexible joints?

AND I found a site that didn't use the above fingering but used the F finger for the C key. That feels more natural to me, but if that were the answer I'd think everyone would do it. I worry that it would be stacking up problems for when I add extra letters in later.

Thanks suzanne, I'm finding all these suggestions really good. I need lots of practice!

My highest score so far has been 53 wpm with 0 errors! Practicing daily is a huge factor.
