MSc research - how does your office affect productivity?

Hi all, I am currently undertaking a Masters (MSc) course and I am carrying out some research into the effect of office design on worker's productivity and motivation.

If you work in an office environment please could you take 2 minutes to complete my survey? It doesn't ask for any personal information.

Thanks

Tarra

I Replied. Saturday mornings are very quiet on MN, try bumping this up around 10:30 on Monday morning.

Done. Are you assessing impact on actual or perceived productivity?

lljkk · 21/11/2015 11:10

How would an individual know the difference, Floppity?

Tarra · 21/11/2015 11:36

Thanks for your replies (on here and the survey).

Good point Flop - the survey is part of a wider piece of research and this just covers one area of it, but the data from the research can only tell me what the perceived impact on productivity is. The actual effect would require too much time / money to investigate properly and I do not have those resources. Luckily there is existing research will help me with regards to this.

I've replied but on the basis of how important/desirable they are to me as I'm not sure I know the answer re their significance to my productivity.

Hey everyone. Thanks for your replies, I now have 189 replies! If you haven't already completed it, please can you?!? It would be great to get over 200! My original aim was to try and hit 100!

Tarra.

you don't have any questions on the one aspect that affects me most, and that is having a work space designed so that there is walking between different areas I need to go to, such as photocopier, toilet, tea room etc. When everything is all together in one space I go absolutly stir crazy, and have resigned from jobs because of this. There has to be physical activity built into the work space for me, or I get so restless I can't sit still.

Done. Also there wasn't a question about what affects my productivity the most - working in an open plan office/small groups/lone working.

Surprisingly I was far more productive in a busy open plan office than I am by myself in my own office.
