Sacked due to maternity leave?

Just had a letter to say my performance has not been up to the required standard so they are not renewing my contract.

But they have judged me on something I could not rectify because i went on maternity leave, so I've effectively been sacked due to my maternity leave.

Union say I've got a good case for tribunal, but I don't want a tribunal, I want my job.

Any comments/suggestions as to what I can put in my letter to my employer?

I think (not 100% sure) that one of the things the tribunal could do is get you your job back. More importantly, if your employers see that you are prepared to take it to tribunal then they may back down.

I would take legal advice (from your union or a specialist solicitor) as to what to say in your letter back.
