I use toggl - it's a online tool. I only use the free version but can track several different project and clients on. Easy to download reports as well.

The free version of Freshbooks is brilliant for this, and, as I run lots of small contracts, I now pay for their service and use it to generate invoices and reminders too.

I tried Toggl but couldn't get on with it. A timer-based system gives a great structure to the day and helps a lot with self-discipline I find.

I use Paymo. It is simple to use. It has a.tracker which I use to time my various clients.

It has a free version or a pro version if you want to invoice more than 1 client. I pay so I can invoice directly.

You can also run reports to track projects/monthly income etc.

It has a desktop and app. It is c£10 a month for the pro version.
