Request for employer funded training/qualification

I would like advice on how to best submit a request for funding for a course that will lead to a professional qualification in an area that my role covers.

How best do I submit my application to the decision makers?

More detail - I would like to study for a diploma in procurement (CIP's). I work as an office manager for a family run LTD. I am currently responsible for all purchases as part of my role, with large/capital purchases being made by a director. I feel that more training and knowledge in this area would benefit the company and my career prospects.

How do I put this across to the director in control for next years budget, in a way that will benefit the company?

Hi stoneage here are some ideas of aspects to include in your proposal, in no particular order

1. Consider suggesting a reasonable lock in clause that obliges you to remain in terms company for x years after training. ie you would pay back the full amount if you leave within 1 year, 50% if you leave after 2 years, but none if you leave after 3 years. (Benefit to you is greater job security! ) you may want to include that if they make you redundant at any time, you will not be liable to repay.

1. Offer to meet some of cost, to show your commitment.

1. Try to get some comparison fees with 3 providers and negotiate to get the cheapest deal then when you give the cost, mention you got for example a 20% reduction.

1. Include some tangible ££business benefits, eg the suppliers you have to negotiate with and what you anticipate could be annualised savings on contracts, on master service agreements, on supplies etc

1. If you feel it's viable, can you suggest a train the trainer approach, ie you become the subject matter expert in the company and you can give some basic training at least ideas and quick tips to the person who may cover you during absences eg holiday, sickness etc.

These are just ideas but was the type of things I included for some training I did a few years ago.

Thanks, we have a policy where by the employee has to pay back the cost of training if they leave within 2 years pro rata'd over the time, and there is only 1 provider locally that office this course, so I need to focus on the benefits and savings it could mean to the company.
