No reply after job interview

I went to a job interview 3 weeks ago and haven't heard anything from the company ever since. I sent them a polite query email last week but received no response.

Should I just assume it's a 'No thanks'?
Or how long do companies generally take to make these decisions? It's a small company in a small town and they said they had couple of other interviews the following week.

I think you could follow it up with a phone call. Did they indicate if they would contact you to let you know either way? It may be they've decided on someone else but at least you could get some feedback on your performance.

I would follow up again. There can be lots of reasons why they've not got back, from being too busy to not seeing all candidates yet, to not actually being able to afford you etc. It's perfectly reasonable to expect to know the decision and to get some feedback, and if you do it shows your determination which is a good thing.

Its awful not knowing isnt it.

Yes I would definitely follow up, I recently applied for an internal role and gave it a week before dropping them an email. I worded it in terms of

When do you think you will be in a position to decide on your successful candidate?

This was slightly less pushy than have I got the job, but also it gave them an opportunity to be clear about approx when they would decide. The manager was actually appreciative as they had been very busy and it didn't put them off me, as they gave me the job!

So it's just to say you can't do any harm by being a bit tenacious!
