Thinking of setting up own landscaping business and wondered if any other self employed people used their own personal mobiles for clients and anything work related or did you keep it all seperate i.e. another number strictly for work? Already have a seperate email for work.

Easier to keep separate, so you can claim back the full cost of one of them as business expenses. You can also switch it off when you don't want to be 'at work'.

Or do some people just use one mobile for work but only use their landline as their personal number? Will HMRC allow you to claim back business expenses if you just took out the calls that were work related if you did use just one mobile for everything? Thanks for replies.

If you can get itemised bills and can identify all the calls as either personal or business then that is fine. You can also claim back part of any standing charge/line rental in proportion - so if it was 50/50 (for instance) then you could claim half. It is also best to have the telephone bills addressed to the business.
