Want to start a career in graphic/web design -- which courses would be best choice?

Cannot afford time or money to go full time to uni for a few years. I'd like an online course for about a year. I'm looking at reed.co.uk
There is a great variety of options. But i'm really afraid to end up paying for something that would be an expensive time-waster with little practical value.
Anybody has experience?

Maybe one or several of digital tutors learning paths . They take you from beginners to advance and you also have access to pluralsight .
