Risk Assessment for Pregnant Teacher

FairytaleTraveller · 08/09/2015 21:17

I'm a 0.6 primary teacher and will more than likely develop GD against like last pregnancy - I'm already testing my bloods. I am 15+4 wks and was wondering how to go about asking for a risk assessment to be done. My school are quite lax with things like this and I want something in writing, especially as I will need to leave the classroom 5/10 mins every afternoon to do my blood testing. Was also thinking of stopping break duties in November, when I'll be around 26 wks - or should I do it sooner? What else should be in the risk assessment? Thanks for any advice

I'm not sure what you mean by wondering how to go about asking? Um. Just ask! Your HT presumably is the person to contact, or if there is someone specific who is responsible for H&S, contact them. Probably both. By email if you want the discussion to be in writing.

In terms of what should be in it, each aspect of your job should be assessed to see if it presents a risk. If things might change, the risk assessment should be reviewed. For example you mention break duties possible presenting a risk at 26 weeks - it seems strange to suggest you know that now, so as things progress, ask for the RA to be reviewed, and at the point break duties present a risk, address that.
