Is this normal?

I've recently started a new job and started as a team of one (with no manager) - the company recently expanded the team and employed a new manager to oversee the team of 4 (including me).

Before the manager started, I was performing very well and hitting targets. I loved the role, and was looking forward to expanding the team.

However, since the manager has started it has been a nightmare. To cut a long story short, we just don't get on very well. I'm quite happy to co-operate professionally and put aside any personality clashes.... he does not seem to be able to do that.

It's a complicated situation but my question for you all is: in your experience, is it normal for there to be this kind of tension in the workplace? I understand that it's not ideal and it's compounded by the fact that we're a small team and work closely. What is your relationship with your line manager/ senior management?

Ooh, wanted to add -->

Since the manager started, my performance and morale have decreased significantly. Which I suppose is my reasoning to seek advice on this situation. I want to do really well here and I love the company, but should I make an effort to rectify the situation or just suck it up?
