"You don't need a job spec"

This is what i was told when i started a fixed term contract. Then, as i sat there gobsmacked the HR person continued 'you write your own here'. Since then, I have become very disillusioned with my job as its just me and the workload is truly massive. I now have some v low level finance guy sending me stuff saying its my remit not his (I already do all their PO's and a monthly report of other dept costs for them) and I just dont have time. He actually threatened to report me to my manager if i didnt do it. What should I do? I am sorely tempted just to walk tbh, as i am so stressed i havent slept in weeks and its not the job I was sold at interview in any way, shape or form. I feel a 'played' tbh,

Let him report you. Then ask your manager where it says on your (non existent) job spec that it's part of your remit.

How much longer is the contract for?

I have 6weeks left to go GoooRooo. I feel like a mug tbh. The 3 finance guys sit there doing sod all and I am run ragged.

Have you got something else lined up for when you finish? If not, start looking now and leave earlier if you can.

Agree with GoooRooo. As there are no job specs, he can't possibly say it's your remit and not his. If he goes to your manager, ask your manager what you are to drop to make room for this tosser's stuff.

Work your hours and no more than your hours. I think they're setting you up for a fall whatever you do, so no point killing yourself in the process. If stuff doesn't get done - well, you're out in 6 weeks anyway (thank god - imagine if you were a permie )

I started looking yesterday for other jobs, have had CV sent off by Agency for one role already. Its bit quiet due to school hols but fingers crossed... I am such a coward I would love to write email back saying that GoooRooo/Tribpot but just thinking about it broke me out in a stress rash all over my neck! One day I will mentally be my actual age instead of a cowardly 15yr old !

Oh and same guy said i must have 'misplaced' some 'personal' mail he was expecting which hasnt shown up. I told him everything i send/receive is confidential & legal and goes/comes recorded so he should have done same if it was a) personal and coming to work b) a passport. 2 weeks later, still no sign of it/ he is still inspecting the mail tray every day and giving me evils. Sigh.

Did he threaten to tell you manager by email? In which case just forward the email to your manager and say 'I received this demand from x. As far as I am aware this is not part of my current remit - could you please point me in the direction of a current job spec? I am, however, happy to do this to help the team but as you are aware I'm currently at full capacity so I will have to drop another part of my role. Do let me know which area you would like me to hand on to another member of the team in order to fulfill this request.'

GoooRooo I am loving that, its so calm, composed and ... perfect compared to what I would probably feck up and send!! He replied saying it was my remit, copying my line manager and the manager above. Neither of whom have said anything to me. I think both know I am not happy in the role by now. They arent stupid.

My line manager is the one who refused to give me a job spec. She is described by the rest of the team, on a daily basis as "a sociopathic rottweiler." The manager above her is ... um, nice but inept, he wont do anything. He also worships Ms Rottweiler (or anyone pretty for that matter).

Well that all sounds pretty hideous! I'd get out as soon as you can afford to.

You can still send the second part of that email.. 'I am happy to do this to help the team but as you are aware' etc

What a horrible environment to work in, you have my sympathies.
